Queen Elizabeth National Park

Queen Elizabeth National Park, located in western Uganda, is the country’s most visited and diverse national park. Covering approximately 1,978 square kilometers, it encompasses savannah, wetlands, forests, and crater lakes, offering a wide range of habitats for wildlife. The park’s location along the western Rift Valley makes it scenically dramatic, with the Kazinga Channel linking Lake George and Lake Edward as a central feature.

The park is famous for its wildlife diversity, including lions, leopards, elephants, buffalo, and Uganda kob. Queen Elizabeth National Park is also known for the dramatic “Tree-Climbing Lions” found in the Ishasha sector. These lions are unique for their habit of resting in fig and acacia trees during the heat of the day. Observing them in this unusual behavior is a highlight for many visitors and adds to the park’s distinctiveness among African safari destinations.
