A 4-day, 3-night safari in Tanzania is a fantastic way to experience the country’s incredible wildlife and diverse ecosystems. Here’s an ideal itinerary.
Arrival: Fly into Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and transfer to your lodge or camp near Tarangire National Park (approximately 2 hours drive).
Evening Game Drive: After settling in, enjoy a late afternoon game drive in Tarangire, famous for its large elephant herds and unique baobab trees.
Overnight: Stay in a lodge or a tented camp near the park.
Morning Game Drive in Tarangire: After breakfast, embark on a morning game drive to witness the wildlife, including lions, zebras, giraffes, and wildebeest.
Lunch and Transfer: Have lunch at your lodge, then drive to Ngorongoro Crater (approximately 3 hours).
Evening at Ngorongoro: Check in at your lodge or camp situated on the crater rim.
Overnight: Stay overnight in the Ngorongoro area, offering a breathtaking view of the crater.
Crater Safari: After an early breakfast, descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for a full-day game drive. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including the endangered black rhino, lions, elephants, and buffaloes. The crater is often referred to as the “Garden of Eden” for its concentration of wildlife.
Picnic Lunch: Enjoy a picnic lunch at a designated site within the crater.
Return to Lodge: In the late afternoon, ascend back to your lodge for dinner and relaxation.
Overnight: Stay again at a lodge or camp near the crater rim.
Morning Transfer: After breakfast, drive to Serengeti National Park (approximately 4–5 hours drive).
Game Drive: Once you arrive, enjoy a game drive through the Serengeti, Tanzania’s most famous national park, known for its wildebeest migration and abundance of predators like lions and cheetahs.
Optional Safari Activities: Depending on your time and interests, you can also opt for a hot air balloon safari or a cultural visit to a Maasai village (additional cost).
Evening Flight Home: Depending on your flight schedule, you can either fly out from Serengeti (there are internal flights from the park to Kilimanjaro Airport or Arusha) or drive back to Arusha for your return flight.
